Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl returned to the drum throne Sunday (May 5) for a special set including Motorhead and Thin Lizzy covers during the fifth annual Ride for Ronnie benefit concert, as reported by Ultimate Classic Rock.

Watch some fan-captured clips of the performances toward the bottom of the page.

Flanked by ex-Buckcherry guitarist Keith Nelson, former Ratt bassist and current Black Star Riders member Robbie Crane, and Thin Lizzy singer Ricky Warwick (also of Black Star Riders), the former Nirvana drummer hit the skins for soaring renditions of Motorhead's "Bomber" and Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak."

Hosted by Eddie Trunk, the annual Ride for Ronnie raises awareness and funds for cancer prevention and research by commemorating the life of Ronnie James Dio, the Dio and Black Sabbath singer who died of cancer in 2010. This year's event began with a motorcycle ride from Harley-Davidson in Glendale, California, before winding down with a concert at Los Encinos Park in nearby Encino. Last year's ride brought in over $50,000 for charity.

"When Ronnie passed away, a lot of people wanted to send money to cancer research," the singer’s widow, Wendy Dio, told Ultimate Classic Rock in 2017. "Some of these big companies do good work, but a lot of money gets eaten up into administration. So, 14 really good friends of Ronnie’s, who’ve been good friends of his for almost 30 years, we all got together and formed the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund."
