‘Deadpool 2’ Enlists ‘The Strain’s Jack Kesy for Mysterious Villain Role
It looks like Josh Brolin’s Cable won’t be the only antagonist Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth has to contend with in Deadpool 2. Another actor has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated sequel, though his name might not be one you immediately recognize: Jack Kesy, best known for his role on the FX horror series The Strain, has signed on to play a mysterious mutant villain.
But if Deadline’s report is accurate, we might already know the identity of Kesy’s villain. According to their sources, Kesy is playing a character from the Marvel comics known as Black Tom, a mutant who hails from Dublin and has a special relationship with plants — yes, plants. Black Tom can “manipulate, bond with, and project energy through plant life,” and carries a weapon made out of wood that allows him to deliver “concussive blasts.” In addition to appearing on The Strain, Kesy has a role in Baywatch and is set to appear opposite Michael Shannon and Chris Hemsworth in the upcoming war drama Horse Soldiers.
Along with Brolin’s Cable, Deadpool 2 features Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz as mutant mercenary Domino, with the two expected to reprise their roles for the upcoming X-Force movie. Original Deadpool stars Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, T.J. Miller and Leslie Uggams are also returning for the sequel, which is being helmed by John Wick co-director David Leitch.
Deadpool 2 hits theaters on June 1, 2018.
