DevilDriver Drop Off Megacruise Following Family Cancer Diagnosis
DevilDriver have canceled their scheduled participation in Megadeth's upcoming Megacruise 2019 after frontman Dez Fafara's wife, Anahstasia Fafara, was diagnosed with cancer. The DevilDriver bandleader revealed the unfortunate news Wednesday (Oct. 9) via social media.
The inaugural Megacruise, which departs from Los Angeles next week (Oct. 13), boasts performances from Megadeth in addition to appearances from Lamb of God, Anthrax, Testament and more. In July, DevilDriver cancelled their fall European tour due to what were termed "unexpected circumstances, completely out of the control of the band." Read Dez Fafara's recent statement toward the bottom of this post.
"Today my world is BLACK my wife and best friend @mrsfafara was told yesterday she has cancer," the DevilDriver founder announced Wednesday, as reported by Theprp and echoed by Metal Injection and other outlets. "Please send positive vibes for our family while we go through this difficult time. #FuckCancer. AT THIS TIME @devildriver IS CANCELLING @themegacruise SO I can be by my wife’s side. Thank you for your understanding."
However, Dez Fafara has since made both his official Instagram and Twitter accounts private, precluding those who weren't previously following him from viewing the original message. (The concert update doesn't currently appear on the band's social media outposts or website.)
All of us at Loudwire wish the Fafara family the best at this time.
The Megacruise came under threat of overall cancellation when Megadeth's Dave Mustaine was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. However, it was revealed soon after that the event remained afloat (although surrounding Megadeth appearances were nixed) while Mustaine continued work on an upcoming album.
