HBO is bringing the life of former Washington, DC Mayor Marion Barry to the small screen.

Eddie Murphy is set to play Barry in the biopic, with Spike Lee directing.

Barry served as DC mayor from 1979 to 1991, and then again from 1995 to 1999. He gained international notoriety in 1990 after being caught smoking crack in a downtown city hotel room and serving six months in prison for that crime.

Barry, 75, is currently a representative on the DC City Council.

There is no timetable for when the movie will air.
