Since delving into the blues with 1994′s ‘From the Cradle,’ Eric Clapton has more or less divided his time between albums of original material and projects that pay tribute to his influences.

On September 13, Clapton and Wynton Marsalis will release ‘Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play the Blues – Live From Jazz at Lincoln Center,’ a CD and DVD commemoration of the three shows the duo played in April.

Marsalis, who is the artistic director of jazz at Lincoln Center, worked with the center’s orchestra on arrangements for the shows, which boasted a covers-heavy set list that included Louis Armstrong’s ‘Ice Cream’ and blues staples like ‘Joe Turner’s Blues.’ As Marsalis writes in the album’s liner notes, “We wanted these concerts to sound like people playing music they know and love, not like a project.”
