FX’s ‘The Strain': Guillermo del Toro Vampire Drama Gets Cryptic New Poster and Teasers
FX's forthcoming adaptation of Guillermo del Toro vampire trilogy 'The Strain' has yet to release a single scrap of footage, but in the meantime, its tantalizing-if-cryptic teasers more than set the tone for the new summer series. Gird your stomachs, and prepare for a bit of eye candy (you'll get it) with a brand-new poster and teasers for FX's 'The Strain!
Entertainment Weekly managed to obtain the first poster for 'The Strain,' which appears to mishmash a few of the new and earlier teasers in highlighting a parasite-looking worm that goes directly into the eyeball (note the eclipse in the pupil, as well). A more recent teaser proves somewhat more cryptic, as a man throws candy on to the ground, and taps his cane to lure someone, or something out.
Based on del Toro’s 2009 novel trilogy, ‘The Strain’ follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (‘House of Cards‘ Corey Stoll), a CDC operative who investigates a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself. FX’s adaptation will see a run of 13 episodes beginning in July 2014.
Also present among the cast are Regina King, Sean Astin (‘Lord of the Rings‘), Roger Cross (‘24‘), Leslie Hope, Robert Maillet (‘Pacific Rim‘), Mia Maestro (‘Alias’), Lauren Lee Smith, Miguel Gomez, Kevin Durand (‘LOST‘), David Bradley (‘Game of Thrones,’ replacing John Hurt) and Richard Sammel (‘Inglorious Basterds’). Former ‘LOST’ and current ‘Bates Motel‘ showrunner Carlton Cuse will helm FX’s adaptation from a screenplay by del Toro and novel co-writer Michael Hogan.
Hopefully we'll have a fuller trailer in the coming weeks, as well as an official premiere date, but in the meantime check out the latest from 'The Strain' above and below, and give us your thoughts on the new horror series in the comments!
