We got a chance to sit down with The Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato at this year’s Chicago Open Air festival. During our chat with Greg, we talked about Dillinger finally coming to an end, Puciato feeling ready for the next chapter of his life and the singer’s next projects.

Having served as Dillinger’s most celebrated vocalist for over 15 years, Puciato is enjoying the twilight while ready for TDEP to take their final bow. “It’s nice because we’ve just had our heads down the whole time, we’ve just been in the trench the whole time,” Puciato says. “I’m ready, I want it to end. I love the shows, but mentally, I know what 2018 is going to be like, 2019… so I’m already there … We must have done something that meant something to people. When you’re in it, you don’t really ever, ever think that. It’s really neat right now to have a first-person and a third-person perspective kind of happening at the same time.”

Puciato also made a point to speak highly of his creative partnership with guitarist Ben Weinman. “I’ll never have another [dynamic] like it again in my life. It won’t be possible,” Greg says. “To be with someone for that long, to be with someone during your formative years that closely. I think that on [Dissociation] we ascended a little bit. I think ending the band almost was us saying, ‘Alright, we did it. This is a victory.’”

Greg Puciato has a strong vision of what the next couple of years will bring for him, and time away from music is not part of that future. Puciato’s band The Black Queen is working on another EP to follow their debut full-length album, Fever Daydream. As for Killer Be Killed, it’s difficult for the busy bandmates to get together, but Greg believes a new album “will happen” since there are “a lot of demos” being recorded for the project.

As a fan of keeping the process close, Puciato was more secretive about his other creative plans, but fans will hear about them once they’re more fully formed. Check out our exclusive interview with Greg Puciato in the clip above!
