In honor of National #HugAGIDay (3/4/19), I first and foremost want to recognize all the service men and women (past, present & future) who go above and beyond the call of duty to protect our freedoms. Thank you for your sacrifice.

How to Observe

According to the National Calendar website, the best way to observe National Hug a G. I. Day is to:

“Find a G.I. you know and give them a hug. Is your G.I. too far away to give a hug? Send him or her a virtual one via text, e-mail, phone or even snail mail. Use #HugAGIDay to post on social media.’

In-House G.I. Hugs

Luckily, here at Townsquare Media we didn’t have to go very far to find a valiant G.I. to gather around & hug & show our support. That’s because our coworker Waheed Gbadamosi is an Officer Candidate in the Oklahoma National Guard. Thank you for your service, Waheed!

National Hug a G.I. Day in the Community

National #HugAGIDay is also the perfect opportunity to highlight people in the community that cater to the needs of our local service men & women every day. Not only is this national day the perfect opportunity to spread an extra dose of positivity, it’s a fun and feel-good way to showcase National #HugAGIDay locally.

Angela Jameson, friend and co-owner of Ann’s Cleaners and Military Surplus, does an amazing job providing a niche service for our local military every day. Her company specializes in dry cleaning, sewing & alterations, a wide variety of military surplus, custom t-shirts and more.

Ann's Cleaners Participates in #HugAGIDay

Because Angela & her staff deal with hundreds of G.I.’s weekly, I decided to call her up to see if she would be interested in participating in National #HugAGIDay. Whenever a client came in, with permission of course, all she had to do was take a pic of herself hugging a G.I. Naturally, she totally agreed that this would be a great idea!

What followed were fantastic pics of Angela in her shop, doing a job that she loves, assisting clients who are not only the foundation of her thriving business, but valiant heroes to this community and to this nation.

So on this National Hug a G.I. Day, I'd like to say thank you to Angela & her staff for keeping our service men & women looking crisp, clean & professional; and thank you G.I.’s for your service.
