Lawton's parks just keep getting better and better! Another local park is getting a much-needed update with new playground equipment. Construction crews began working on the new equipment last week at Kathy Newcombe Park.

The City of Lawton is steadily working on updating all of the playground equipment across the city. Kathy Newcombe Park is the current park that's under construction for new playground equipment.

Kathy Newcombe Park is one of two parks located in Lawton's Fields and Dunning neighborhood.

Now that the weather's getting warmer, Lawton's parks will start seeing a lot of kids and families! Kathy Newcombe Park is located in Lawton's Fields and Dunning Neighborhood, and features two playground areas within the park that sits between NW Laird Avenue and NW Parkview Boulevard. The playground on the south side of the park is where the new playground equipment is being constructed.

The park is also close to Whittier Elementary School and Lawton High School, so it will not only be a great upgrade to the families in the neighborhood, but also students at two schools.

We reached out to the City of Lawton to see when the construction would be completed at Kathy Newcombe Park, and whether or not the playground on the northside of the park would receive new playground equipment, but had not received an answer at time of publishing. With how fast the construction has gone in the last few days, the new playground equipment could be ready before we know it!

Stephens Park is the City of Lawton's next park to receive new playground equipment.

In the City of Lawton's Work In Progress Wednesday update from March 11, the city outlined the current construction at Kathy Newcombe Park, and stated that the park construction is part of the city's Kids First Initiative, which focuses on enhancing the spaces where kids learn, play and grow.

Kathy Newcombe Park is just one of the many parks in Lawton that has received upgrades. Next on the list is Stephens Park on NW 23rd, which will soon see a similar upgrade to playground equipment.

Only Stores Left In The Lawton Central Plaza

What used to be a busy, bustling mall with a movie theatre, tons of stores and set ups for families has become quite the ghost town. But there are still a few stores open as of August 2025.
