Oklahoma’s Last Frost May Come Earlier Than Usual
After the snow and rain, Oklahoma residents are starting to see greener grass and weeds poke through the cold ground. As spring gets closer and closer, most Oklahoma residents are itching to tackle their gardens. And this year, it looks like the state could see an earlier last frost, which means planting can begin sooner than expected.
Most of Oklahoma typically sees its last frost during the first few weeks of April. But according to The Old Farmer's Almanac, the entire state of Oklahoma could see an earlier last frost date this year.
Oklahoma's last frost could come a week or two early this year.
The Old Farmer's Almanac released its last frost predictions for 2026, and Oklahoma is one of the states that could see an earlier last frost this year. The Old Farmer's Almanac is expecting Oklahoma to see its last spring frost earlier than normal this year, potentially a week or two.
So it's very possible that Oklahoma could see its last frost near or just after the first day of spring on March 22. Southern and central Oklahoma often see their last frost dates towards the very end of March or early April. While northern Oklahoma and the panhandle don't often receive their last frost to mid-April.
But this year, The Old Farmer's Almanac is encouraging Oklahoma gardeners to subtract a week or two to predict their area's last frost date.
How to look up your area's average frost dates.
If you're wanting to calculate your area's potential last frost date, The Old Farmer's Almanac makes it easy for you to look up your area's first and last frost dates by searching with your area's zip code.
But remember to subtract a week or two based on Oklahoma's earlier frost expectancy!
