
Storm Season Kicks Off With Devastating Tornadoes In Oklahoma
Oklahoma's storm season officially kicked off Thursday, March 5, with a strong round of severe storms and tornadoes. Large hail, strong winds and tornadoes impacted areas north of I-35 with one tornado taking the lives of a mother and daughter near Fairview.
Severe storms started entering western Oklahoma from the Texas Panhandle on Thursday evening, well after the sun went down. Multiple severe storm and tornado warnings were issued as storms made their way from Beckham County and up to Grant County. Warnings were also issued for storms in the Oklahoma Panhandle Thursday evening.
Several areas of damage, including a report of two deaths, have been reported in Major County after Thursday night's storms.
As of Friday morning, the biggest impacts appear to be in Major County, near Fairview. News 9 flew over the damage in Major County and documented damage to farms, homes, powerlines and more.

Mother and daughter who died by Thursday's nights storms were identified as Jodie and Lexi Owens of Fairview.
News 9 also possibly flew over the vehicle a mother and daughter were in Thursday evening, resulting in their deaths. Lacie Lowry with News 9 reported that the mother and daughter were identified Friday morning.
Jodie Owens and her daughter Lexi were driving near State Highway 60 and County Road 2435 Thursday evening, around 10 p.m. Jodie was reported to have been on the phone with her other children at home, telling them to take cover, before the call was dropped.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) discovered the wreckage and the recovered the bodies that night. As of Friday morning, OHP reported that the wreckage appeared to be from a tornado, but investigations are still ongoing.

The amount of tornadoes Thursday evening is currently under review by the National Weather Service in Norman.
As of Friday morning, there has been no official tornado account issued for Thursday evening. The National Weather Service in Norman reported Friday morning that storm surveys are being conducted today and a preliminary report is expected Friday afternoon.
