
High Winds And Dry Conditions Raise Fire Risk Across Oklahoma
Oklahoma has multiple days of increased fire weather in the forecast before the next storm system arrives. Residents are urged to practice wildfire safety as fire danger increases across the state.
Thursday and Friday will be exceptionally windy, resulting in critical and near-critical fire weather. Saturday will give a brief reprieve from fire danger, but will ramp back up again Sunday and continue into the week.
Most of Oklahoma is under a Red Flag Warning for Thursday and Friday.
A majority of Oklahoma is currently under a Red Flag Warning. The warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday and will be in effect again from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Oklahoma will see critical fire weather Thursday and near critical on Friday due to high winds, warm temperatures, low relative humidity and increased dry vegetation.
Fire weather will continue across Oklahoma into the weekend and next week.
Oklahoma will see a break from fire weather on Saturday, but near-critical fire weather will return Sunday. Near-critical fire weather will continue into the week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesy.
Oklahoma's next storm system is expected to arrive at the beginning of April, and an increase in humidity and rain will help give Oklahoma a much needed reprieve from fire weather.
Oklahoma residents should continue to practice wildfire safety.
Even if a county isn't under a burn ban, residents across Oklahoma are urged to practice wildfire safety. When fire danger is high, it doesn't take much to start a dangerous wildfire.
