Not only am I an incredibly attached pet owner, but I've also worked inside of a veterinary hospital. It always broke my heart to see panicking families drop their animals off in an emergency situation and have to leave them with the doctor. I didn't know how I would handle a situation like that with my own pets.

Recently, one of my good friends shared the news about places in the United States that actually have animal hospitals that offer rooms for pet parents to stay overnight with their pets. Her words were "this is amazing and we need one."

Surprisingly, I was able to find one place in Oklahoma that actually has this available for pet owners. They're part of a major group with locations across the country, called the Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG).

What Is The Veterinary Emergency Group?

The VEG hospital in Oklahoma City is one of the very few emergency hospitals for animals in Oklahoma. Even more rare, they're one of the only 24/7 hospitals ready to take in patients any day of the week at any time, even during holidays.

Don't get it confused - this is an emergency veterinarian - not someone you try to see when you forgot to update your dogs vaccines before you drop them off at the groomer. They see animals for emergencies like:

  • X-rays
  • Surgeries
  • End of Life care
  • Point of care ultrasounds
  • Diagnotistics and testing
  • Emergency, unexpected cases

Since they have everything they need to handle emergencies, you don't have to call ahead or schedule an appointment. If you have an emergency, just head there.

How are pet parents able to stay overnight with their pets?

According to previous testimonials, the VEG hospital is "open concept" and strives to include the owners in every step of the process of treating an animal.

Unlike other veterinarians, they have the space, resources and options available to give patients and their parents a room to stay with beds, blankets and ready access to the professionals.

Is it expensive to stay overnight with your pet at VEG?

Like most veterinary care, things can get expensive quickly, especially when you include the overnight stay costs. However, according to VEG, there are resources available to help those who've exhausted every option to save their pet.

They are also open to accepting assistance like CareCredit and Scratchpay.

People who've visited VEG after using other emergency vets have said that, while the cost may be greater, the service for emergencies (not including sub-specialty care) has been above and beyond what they've seen at other places.

It's difficult to know what to do in an emergency situation, let alone to trust complete strangers with your pet. In extreme cases, it might be worth the money to spend every moment by their side.
