It's surprising how many Oklahomans don't know that one of the most prominent horse racing tracks sits right in the heart of the Sooner state. They host a variety of events, outside of regular horse races, for families everywhere to enjoy.

And yet - somehow - it remains some sort of secret.

But, if you want to explore an entirely different part of Oklahoma and uncover this secret for yourself, then the perfect event is almost here. Make plans to attend Remington Park's Extreme Racing Event on Sunday, April 12.

Here's what you can expect and plan for.

What Is Extreme Racing At Remington Park?

Although it sounds intense, this event switches back and forth between intense, important races and some that are just plain hilarious to see. I mean, have you ever seen ostriches try to race each other?

The event starts early in the day and continues throughout the afternoon. The track will still have regular races for American Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, and Paint Horses. In between the serious races, they'll have special races to watch and cheer for.

They'll have camel, ostrich, and zebra races. North of the plaza, they'll also have flying pig races.

Why is Extreme Racing Different From Their Normal Races?

All of Remington Park's races are family-friendly and are actually great opportunities to bond for horse lovers. But the Extreme Racing event looks a little different from their normal race day.

This event allows families to come sit outside, closer to the track, to watch the action closer than during regular race days. You can also get a closer look and snap pictures with the exotic animals beforehand.

This event also lasts all day long, whereas normal races can fly by quickly (literally). Not to mention, the parking and general admission for the event are free. If you want special seating closest to the track, you'll have to purchase tickets.

What Other Activities Can You Do While In OKC For Extreme Racing?

Oklahoma City is the largest city in the entire state, so it's safe to say the "what to do" list is incredibly long. You can visit some of the places that were recently nominated by USA Today as some of the best experiences in the country.

You can also take a look at the list below of some of the most unique things you can do in Oklahoma City, especially once spring officially arrives.

Unique Things to Do in Oklahoma City

There is no shortage of things to do in OKC. While there are a handful of things everyone knows about--OKC Zoo, Myriad Gardens, Bricktown, etc-- there are even more lesser-known places to experience one-of-a-kind Oklahomaness.
