This year has been a rough one for the country. According to a recent study from Couponfollow found that at least 21% of Americans would celebrate the holidays, but would not be buying gifts. Here in Oklahoma, the sentiment is nearly the same.

Numerous families have already asked the community for help finding programs that will provide affordable or free gifts for children. Luckily, a few non-profit organizations in and around Lawton have stepped up to the plate.

If you and your family are struggling with providing Christmas gifts this year, here are local events and drives happening that can help.

Kiowa Tribe Toys For Tots For Both Tribal & Non-Tribal Families

This year, the Kiowa Tribe is inviting adults only to come to 1621 SW Lee Blvd. and collect a pre-wrapped gift for their children on Saturday, December 13. The giveaway begins at 8 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m., or until gifts last.

Although the gifts are provided by the Kiowa Tribe, anyone can come and grab a gift, not just tribal members. They are specifically asking for adults to be the only ones picking up gifts in order to "preserve a little Christmas magic and the element of surprise."

Free goodies, food, photo prints & more at Fort Sill Army Community Service Event.

Christmas gifts don't have to be storebought, or even actual gifts at all. Sometimes, it's just as important to make the memories together as a family. This event is not giving gifts, but helping families build memories and decor together for free.

The Fort Sill MWR is hosting a free event that is open to the public that feature free photo prints and Santa & Grinch stations, cookies and popcorn, and so much more. Not to mention, several Christmas icons like Buddy the Elf, Mr. & Mrs. Claus, The Grinch, and more will be there to bring the Christmas spirit to life.

Comanche Nation Toy Giveaway for Tribal members.

On Monday, December 22, the Comanche Nation will be giving away toys for children currently enrolled with the nation. Starting at 3 p.m. and running until 7 p.m., they'll give parents two gifts per child, first come, first served.

Tribal members must bring their CDIB in order to receive a gift for their child. They will have gifts available for toddlers and children up to 18 years old.

If you are looking to help a family in need this Christmas, there are still several programs similar to the Angel Tree that Lawton needs filled. Find the full list on our app.
