Lawton Food Bank & Partner Hosting Thanksgiving Distribution
Usually at this time of year, many people are already rushing past Thanksgiving and starting to set up the Christmas decorations. However, because of the continued government shutdown, food is one of the most important things on everyone's minds.
Although the Lawton Food Bank has already made a tremendous effort to serve the southwest Oklahoma community, they've decided to host a rare event at the end of this month to top it all off.
In spirit of the generosity and giving nature that the rest of Oklahoma has had for families in need, the Lawton Food Bank is hosting a holiday distribution with Harvest Plenty on Saturday, November 22.
Lawton Food Bank is distributing Thanksgiving baskets at Harvest Plenty.
Rather than hosting a typical drive thru distribution, the Lawton Food Bank decided to prepare baskets of food with the folks at Harvest Plenty House of Prayer and distribute them there. The address for the event is 3826 SE Elmhurst Lane in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Since the event is first come, first serve, no pre-registration will be required before the day of. They may still take information from guests while in line on the day of in order to best serve their needs, so it's best to plan to be there early. They expect to start handing out baskets at 9 a.m.
It will still be a drive-thru distribution, so the food will be prepared ahead of time. Families will likely need to line up in their cars and allow the volunteers to load the food into their vehicle, one family at a time.
Families in need during November can visit twice throughout the month.
Since they announced that they would allow families to visit twice during November to receive food, the Lawton Food Bank has received an incredible amount of donations from various food drives and grants.
Hopefully, between both the financial assistance that they received and the insurmountable food and drink donations that have been donated, they should have enough to feed more than enough families through the month. But the need for assistance may not stop there if the government shutdown continues.
They still intend on hosting more drives, distributions, and special days for families to come and fill a bag of goods. For more information on their programs and assistance, follow their Facebook page and website.
