Unless you've ever had a tattoo, it's hard to understand the urge to relive the pain of getting one. But if you HAVE ever had a tattoo, you know that some spots hurt worse than others.

We asked some of Oklahoma's tattoo artists and others who've gotten tattoos before for their advice on where not to get your first tattoo. Here were the top comments:

  • "As someone who is heavily tattooed i will say your feet and the inside of your arms are the most sensitive from what I have." - Summer Dutton
  • "Throat or sternum. lol no tattoo artist but have them there and those 2 hurt the most." - Erica Jones

  • "Get your neck tattooed. No balls. Jk jk. Really it all Depends on your pain tolerance. I’m covered in tattoos. The tattooos that hurt the worst for my was my leg sleeve. My neck, the inside of my arms, and etc really weren’t that bad. Don’t let other peoples pain tolerance be yours." - Devyn Abram Rodriguez
  • "Ribs, waist line or armpit." - Daniel Hansen
  • "I see a lot of people saying the stomach. My stomach did not hurt me but up high on my ribs right underneath my breast took my entire breath away, and I couldn’t control it. It’s really the only one I have that was very painful. Can’t say I would do that again!" - Natasha Lobban
  • "Anywhere there's not much meeat between skin and bone. Your shins and the back of your forearm/elbows, knees, top of your feet, back of your hands/fingers." - Jason Lewis
  • "Idk about yall but out of all my tattoos the side of my wrist hurt the most back of my head wasn't too bad and inside elbow crease hurt not during the tattoo but after it did." -Aguayo M Hector
  • "Don’t get a tattoo outta the back of a van or someone’s garage." - Jason Bass

It sounds like your best bet to avoid the feet, hands and areas that don't have a lot between bones and the surface of your skin.
