It was recently announced that a Sex Pistols biopic was in the works. Fan interest was at a huge high, but in a new tweet, vocalist Johnny Rotten revealed the movie is “unauthorized, unofficial and not endorsed” by the Sex Pistols.

With the monumental success of rock biopics like Bohemian Rhapsody and The Dirt, not to mention the upcoming Elton John film, Rocketman, it’s only natural that Hollywood will begin running the gamut of legendary bands. “We were impressed by the box office takings for Bohemian Rhapsody. It only goes to show the public has an appetite for these films," filmmaker Ayesha Plunkett tells The Daily Star.

Unlike the 1986 Pistols film, Sid and Nancy, the upcoming biopic will focus on controversial band manager Malcolm McLaren and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood as the Pistols begin their ascent to infamy.

Johnny Rotten doesn’t seem too excited about the film, as he tweeted earlier today, “You may have seen recent reports of a Sex Pistols biopic. For the avoidance of doubt this film would be unauthorised, unofficial, and not endorsed by Sex Pistols.”

Rotten made headlines earlier this month when he verbally sparred with Marky Ramone and Henry Rollins during a panel for the new Epix series, Punk.
