Lostprophets Announce Breakup in Wake of Singer Ian Watkins’ Child Sex Allegations
In one of the most heinous and disturbing rock news stories in history, Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins is currently awaiting trial for numerous child sex offenses. After nearly a year of contemplation, Lostprophets have decided to call it quits.
In December 2012, Watkins and two female accomplices were arrested. The charges brought upon Watkins include allegations of sexually abusing an infant; conspiracy to sexually assault another small child; possession and distribution of child pornography; and possession of "extreme animal pornography." Watkins has pleaded "not guilty" to all charges, and the singer's trial is scheduled to commence on Nov. 25.
The other members of Lostprophets released a statement regarding Watkins' situation shortly after his initial arrest, but since then, the band has remained very quiet. However, in the band's first Facebook post since December 2012, Lostprophets revealed that they are no more:
To our fans:
After nearly a year of coming to terms with our heartache, we finally feel ready to announce publicly what we have thought privately for some time. We can no longer continue making or performing music as Lostprophets. Your love and support over the past 15 years has been tremendous, and we'll be forever grateful for all you've given us. As we look forward to the next phase of our lives, we can only hope to be surrounded by people as devoted and inspiring as you guys have been.
Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike, and Stu
