In a time where many are distancing themselves from the Confederate Flag, Mushroomhead are holding strong to their usage of Confederate Flag merchandise. In fact, newly created masks known as "The Rebel" are now available via Mushroomhead Masks and Memorabilia and the Filthy Hands Co.

"The Rebel" is an intricately created mask painted red with blue stripes and white stars much like the Confederate Flag. In a post on Mushroomhead's Facebook page, a description of "The Rebel" reads as follows:

A rebel is a person who stands up for their own personal opinions despite what anyone else says. A true rebel stands up for what they believe is right, not against what's right. It's not about smoking crack, drinking till you're rendered unconscious, or beating the crap out of anyone that crosses your path. It's all about being an individual and refusing to follow a crowd that forces you to think the same way they do even if it means becoming an outcast to society. True rebels know who they are and do not compromise their individuality or personal opinion for anyone. They're straightforward and honest and they will sure as hell tell it like it is.

The Confederate Flag has come under fire of late, as the symbolism has been questioned after the racially-motivated church shootings in South Carolina. A number of musicians have weighed in on the topic, with Kid Rock telling Confederate Flag protesters to "kiss my ass."

Meanwhile, Philip Anselmo and Vinnie Paul had differing opinions on the matter, as Pantera had long used the flag in their merchandising. "These days, I wouldn't want anything to do with it," stated Anselmo. "You see a Confederate Flag out there that says, 'Heritage Not Hate,' I'm not so sure I'm buying into that, you know?" Paul, meanwhile, said he viewed the controversy as "a big knee-jerk reaction," adding, "It's unfortunate that people are like that, they want to point a finger at something, you know."
