Phil Labonte Calls Oli Herbert’s Widow an ‘Absolute Garbage Human Being’
All That Remains singer Phil Labonte is not a fan of Beth Herbert, widow of the late guitarist Oil Herbert, who died by drowning this past fall. Labonte called her an "absolute garbage human being" in a recent interview on Rover's Morning Glory radio show.
Labonte made the comment after someone from the show mentioned Beth's celebratory statement about Oli's toxicology report. "Beth was never allowed to be on tour," Labonte says. "She would come to the local shows because we couldn't stop her...Everyone else in the band's wives, girlfriends, would come out on tour, stay for a couple of days or a week. Everybody got along." When asked why she wasn't allowed on tour and who made the decision, Labonte replied, "We made the decision, and she wasn't allowed because she's a garbage human being."
He continues, "We tried to convince him to get a divorce for a long time. I can't tell you exactly why he wouldn't do it or the circumstances surrounding his resistance — I don't know. But I can say that I personally talked to him multiple times and said, 'Look if you need a place to stay, I got plenty of room. Come to my house.'"
When asked if Labonte has an opinion on whether Herbert's wife had any involvement with his death, he said, "I do have an opinion, but I'm not gonna say it...There is an ongoing investigation by the Connecticut State Police." He then goes into detail about how he came to discover Herbert had died. "Beth calls me. It was a very short conversation."
Labonte also denied the notion that Oli was drunk or on drugs when he died. "He liked mixed drinks, he liked good beers, but he wasn’t into the drinking and stuff. He would have some drinks...in 20 years, I’ve seen him hungover two times. It wasn’t his deal...Oli Herbert did not do the types of drugs that you would associate with an overdose, period.”
Labonte declined to offer an opinion about the fact that Herbert signed a will a week before he died.
