Pot Smokers Are Less Likely to Be Obese Than Non-Smokers
People who smoke pot once a week are about 25 percent less likely to be obese than non-smokers.
According to a study by French researchers, marijuana smokers have a 16 percent rate of obeseity, whereas those who don’t partake enjoy a rate of obesity between 22 and 25 percent.
The researchers were surprised by these findings, since they assumed the “munchies” associated with marijuana use would actually make pot smokers fatter.
So they surveyed another sample group, and came up with same results. In fact, they found people who smoke marijuana at least three times a week have an even lower obesity rate (14 percent) then once-a-week tokers.
The reason for this could be that marijuana encourages its users to exercise more, or embrace a healthier diet. However, the researchers are skeptical of that type of behavioral conclusion, and recommend further study into whether there is a component of marijuana which helps the body break down fat.
