PSO’s Power Hours Are Back With Small Changes In 2025
Portions of Oklahoma are just weeks away from entering PSO's Power Hours summer electricity program with little changes to 2025. Are you on this program?
If you didn't know, the long and short of the program is money savings through electricity savings. You get charged different prices depending on the time of day.
For most of the weekday, Power Hours offers a lower price for electricity during off-peak hours when most people are sleeping, at work, school, etc... but when peak time swings around, in the afternoons between 2 PM and 7 PM, the rate skyrockets.

The hope is to limit the sudden demand for power, since once it's made at the power plant, it's use it or lose it. Regardless, we all pay for it whether it gets used or not.
Just like driving a car, you get your highest efficiency while you're steadily driving at a constant rate. Consider hitting heavy OKC traffic as the peak time of Power Hours. As you stop and go with hard accelerations and braking, your fuel economy suffers.
The goal is to equal out steady use during the heat of the day in order to run the power plant as efficiently as possible, and in turn Power Hour subscribers generally pay a lower-than-average bill than those who don't opt-in.
That's the sales pitch for it anyway. I get emails every October when the program ends with notifications of $XX savings.
If you're not signed up, PSO does offer incentives.
First, you'll need a wi-fi enabled thermostat. When you sign up, PSO will give you a $50 e-gift card to reimburse a portion or all of that cost to you - depending on which thermostat you choose.
During the summer, when peak-load events happen, PSO may adjust your thermostat by a few degrees during those peak hours, but it's not an everyday thing. They allow for a maximum of 16 of these events to happen between May 1st and September 30th.
On top of it, at the end of the hot season, you'll receive a bonus $25 e-gift card per registered thermostat in your home as a little something-something.
If PSO is your power company and you'd like to hop into Power Hours, here's the link.
