There are certain things that with the coming of spring you can't count on. Income taxes, rain showers, flowers and baseball are some of those. One other thing you can count on in the spring is the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.

The spring's flowers remind us that it is a time of regeneration, and nothing represents that better than celebrating the lives of cancer survivors and the remembrance of those that valiantly fought the fight before finally succumbing to the disease. This year's Relay for life will be held this Friday, April 21st, beginning at 6 pm at the Aggie Rec Center on the campus of Cameron University. The event will feature activities that will help raise money to continue the American Cancer Society's ongoing fight against the dreaded disease.

For more than 20 years, the Relay for Life of Comanche County has been celebrating those who have fought cancer. One way to honor those fighters is through Luminarias, sacks of sand with a candle bearing the name of a love one who is either currently fighting cancer, or who has lost their battle.

In its early years, the Walk For Life spanned 18 hours, but this year's event will run from 6:00 to 10:30 pm. The evening will be filled with activities including a live auction, a photo booth, as well as bounce houses and face painting for the kids.
