Rex Brown is working on the follow-up to his debut solo LP, Smoke on This..., which came out last summer. The former Pantera and Down bassist revealed he is in the studio in a post to his official Instagram page.

"Slugging it out in the studio, writing & recording Solo record #2...Stay tuned Folks, this is getting Good!!!," Brown posted yesterday (Sept. 16).

Late last year, Brown told Full Metal Jackie he intended to move in the same direction of Smoke on This... with its follow-up.

"You'll just have to wait and see. It's as easy as that," he said. "I want to continue in the direction I am headed now. In fact I might head into the studio and do some covers, something to kind of feel just more material and also to give the fans something cool."

Speaking to Loudwire about the direction Smoke on This..., Brown said he didn't want to repeat what he had done in his previous bands in terms of heaviness. "The songs are where I wanna go, man. I’ve done my share of the metal thing."

"I think I’ve got a lot more talent than just sitting around and [heavy strumming]," he continued. "It’s been a labor of love, man. I’m just letting the wind blow. That’s all you can do these days. I’ve had a magnificent career, but man, I’m still young. I’ve still got a lot of fire and fucking hell in my ass.”

The record ended up on our list of the 25 Best Hard Rock Albums of 2017, which can be viewed below.
