Russian Track Stars Kiss on Medal Stand to Protest Country’s Controversial Anti-Gay Laws
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and that could certainly be the case with this telling photo.
As a way to protest their country’s controversial anti-homosexual laws which could threaten the upcoming Olympic Games, Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firov kissed on the podium when their 4x400 relay team won the gold medal at this weekend’s IAAF track championships in Moscow, Russia.
Sochi, Russia will host the Winter Games next year. The country has come under fire from various outlets for a law pledging to boot any gay athletes or tourists.
Ryzhova and Firov join a growing list of Russian athletes who have protested the measure. As for whether their actions will have an impact, well, only time will tell.
