Support Charities that Rock: Here’s Some Musician-Led Organizations
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Mahatma Gandhi said that, and it's a sentiment that clearly resonates with a number of rock legends,

When Steven Tyler co-wrote Aerosmith's “Janie’s Got a Gun” in 1989, he told the story of a young girl who is abused by her father. Today, he's helping to prevent that kind of abuse via Janie's Fund; the organization's purpose is to bring awareness to the issue of abuse and neglect of children in our country and "to generate financial support to ensure that girls receive the most effective support available to help them overcome the trauma and pain of abuse."
In 2007, when Sammy Hagar sold 80 percent of his Cabo Wabo Tequila business for $80 million, he and his wife started The Hagar Family Foundation, a private non-profit which eliminates much of the red tape that can hamper funds getting quickly to the people and charities that need them.
In 2017, Metallica launched the All Within My Hands Foundation, "to assist and enrich the lives of members of the communities who have supported the band for years, as well as encourage participation from fans and friends. All funds raised will be donated to a cross-section of national and local charities... every penny from your donations will go directly to our charity partners." The band recently announced their "Metallica Day of Service" on May 23, encouraging fans to volunteer at local community food banks. Learn more here.
Alice Cooper founded his Solid Rock Foundation in 1995; it's a faith-based organization, whose stated mission is "to make an everlasting difference in the lives of teens by helping them meet the spiritual, economical, physical, and social needs of at-risk teens (we believe all teens are at risk) in the community by offering a safe, engaging environment during non-school hours –a time when they are most vulnerable to drugs, violence, and gangs... Solid Rock provides the music, arts, vocational programs and fellowship that challenge teens to discover their passion through music, dance, self-expression, and creativity."
The Chris & Vicky Cornell Foundation was formed in late 2012 with the mission to protect vulnerable children around the world. The late Soundgarden frontman's foundation supports organizations that provide shelter and resources for homeless, abused and at-risk youth, children living in refugee camps and victims of human trafficking. And just last month, Vicky Cornell announced the Addiction Resource Center for Chris, to help those struggling with substance abuse.
