Due to the extreme heat and the recent unfortunate death of a hiker, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has an emergency closure order and new time restrictions on hiking and trail walking.

Wildlife officials are warning the general public that the Oklahoma black bear population is growing and to be on the lookout, especially during the early Summer months as more and more sightings have been reported.

It's morel mushroom hunting season in Oklahoma! These tasty little treats are only found for a limited time throughout the spring. Early spring is the best time to hunt and find morels in the Sooner State. For the next 4-6 weeks it's prime hunting season so get out there and start looking for morels.

While it might not feel like Spring right now, it's certainly on the way and with it comes warmer temperatures, outdoor fun, and hummingbirds. Any day now we'll be seeing hummingbirds back in Oklahoma.

It's back, Lawton's RV, Boat, and Outdoor Leisure Show returns to the Comanche County Fairgrounds this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, February 11th through the 13th. Even better from what it's looking like Mother Nature is going to be somewhat cooperative.

You could be drawn for the hunt of a lifetime! Elk season will soon be here starting October 7th through the 10th then again on December 9th through the 12th. Applications are now being accepted for the City of Lawton's 2021 elk hunt.

Oklahoma's "Free Fishing Days" are coming up this weekend starting Saturday, June 5th through Sunday, June 6th (06-05-21 to 06-06-21). You can fish local and area public lakes, ponds and other places throughout Oklahoma without the need for a state fishing license. It's the perfect time to introduce people, especially kids to fishing and the great outdoors. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation does this every year and it's always a fun family weekend of fishing and spending time together. It's starting to get warmer and warmer outside and before you know it we'll be heading to the lakes for some Summer fun. We're actually seeing a Spring this year as temperatures slowly rise. Normally we go from cold to hot with no gradual change, but this year it's been nice to have those 70's and 80's before it gets really hot.
