The Mars Volta

On one of his 12 solo albums this year, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez works with his former bandmates in The Mars Volta.

The Mars Volta disbanded last year, and as was recently revealed, vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and onetime drummer Dave Elitch formed the new band Antemasque, with some help from Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. They have announced their self-titled debut album will be unleashed July 15.

The Mars Volta are no more, but we may have the next best thing. The band's frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala, guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and onetime drummer Dave Elitch are teaming with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea to launch a new group called Antemasque.

Killer Be Killed, a group consisting of Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato, Sepultura / Soulfly legend Max Cavalera, Mastodon frontman Troy Sanders and former Mars Volta drummer David Elitch, has finally revealed the track listing, cover art and release date of the band's debut album. The self-titled disc is scheduled to hit shelves on May 13 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante and At the Drive-In / Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez have teamed up to create the new project Kimono Kult. Both eccentric musicians have put out some odd forms of rock in the past, and from what we've learned about Kimono Kult, it has the potential to out-weird them all.

There's been a mysterious and exciting vibe revolving around the new project launched by Soulfly's Max Cavalera, the Dillinger Escape Plan's Greg Puciato, Mastodon's Troy Sanders and former Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch. The new band has been dubbed Killer Be Killed, and the group have finally released some juicy details on their 2014 debut album.

According to a mass of tweets from vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala, he has parted ways with the experimental rock band the Mars Volta, essentially leading to the conclusion that the band has broken up. Formed in 2001 after post-hardcore legends At the Drive-In dissipated, the Mars Volta quickly swept the world of music, but 12 years later, the band is apparently no more.

Texas prog heavies the Mars Volta have broken up. News of their demise came last night (Jan. 23) via a series of tweets from singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala, who founded the group in 2001 with multi-instrumentalist and producer Omar Rodríguez-López, his former compatriot in post-hardcore faves At the Drive-In.
