‘The Voice’ Pays Tribute to Sandy Hook Shooting Victims With Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’

Perhaps it's because he's in the midst of rare and extensive North American tour, but for whatever reason, the music of Leonard Cohen is getting a lot of attention these days. Especially 'Hallelujah,' the 1984 gospel-rock tune that comedian Adam Sandler reworked into the joke jam ‘Sandy, Screw Ya' and performed in front of a global audience of 2 billion during last week's 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief in New York City.

Sandler was obviously using humor to help heal, but nobody was joking last night (Dec. 18) on this season's next-to-last episode of NBC's 'The Voice,' when the entire cast of coaches and artists came together to open the show with a version of 'Hallelujah' that was sung in honor of the victims of Friday's tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. A total of 26 singers performed, each wearing the name of one of the victims of the tragedy. It was quite a touching and emotional gesture, indeed.
