Last night (September 18), We Came as Romans performed their first show since the death of singer Kyle Pavone. Opening for Bullet for My Valentine, co-vocalist Dave Stephens paid tribute to his late bandmate, sharing some kind words about his character.

On Aug. 25, Pavone succumbed to an accidental drug overdose. The band chose to continue without finding a new singer, instead relying on the vocal talents of Stephens, along with guitarist Joshua Moore and bassist Andy Glass for backing vocals.

We Came as Romans plowed through a 10-song set in St. Louis, speaking about Pavone before launching into “Lost in the Moment.” "A few weeks ago, we lost our best friend our bandmate our brother our singer/keyboardist Kyle Pavone, and this is our first show that we've done without him. Thank you, guys, for being so accepting tonight,” Stephens said before fans began chanting “Kyle” at the top of their lungs.

"This is something I wasn't sure we’d ever get to do again. I think it's what he would have wanted. I think it's the best way to honor his legacy. One of the things that I admired most about him was his ability to not regret his past, not worry about his future and live in the present and enjoy that moment because he believed things could change so quickly and those great things could be taken from you in a heartbeat."

The Kyle Pavone Foundation was launched following the singer’s death, with proceeds promising to “serve and advocate for the musician community in their time of greatest need, providing hope and a means to carry on.”
