West Nile Virus Is Back In Oklahoma in 2024
West Nile Virus is officially back in the Sooner State.
Epidemiologists have confirmed mosquitoes that carry West Nile are back to the Sooner State, recently found in mosquitoes trapped in Tulsa. Other parts of the state are to be tested and surveyed next.
If you're wondering how they do this, they put out traps to capture the mosquitoes, then painstakingly test their blood through normal blood work.
Officials do stress that just because they've confirmed mosquitoes carrying the disease are here, they still haven't confirmed a single case of West Nile in our population, yet... and only seven cases have been confirmed across the country thus far in 2024.
If you want to stay on top of this stuff, go straight to the CDC website. Be vigilant in the early morning and evening hours. Bug spray is a proven option, but there are dozens of holistic/DIY options out there also if you're worried about the DEET.
