Recently, Business Insider magazine teamed up with Foursquare to determine the most popular fast-food chain in each state of the union, and to almost no one's surprise, the survey discovered that Oklahomans love Taco Bueno more than any other fast food restaurant. The study looked at which chains averaged the most visits per location in every state. The computations were based on the total number of visits to each chain, divided by the number of locations in that state.

Now, while the first Taco Bueno was opened in Texas, Tulsa quickly staked its claim on the chain, with the chain's second location, opened in Tulsa in 1972, to be soon followed by four more. The reason was simple – the founder had family and land in the Tulsa area so it was a logical choice for expansion. Eight of the first 10 Taco Bueno stores were Oklahoma-based. The state, and particularly Tulsa, played an important role in the chain’s growth and is second only to Texas in number of locations. Until the mid-1980s, Taco Bueno was the only Tex-Mex or Mexican fast food option in Tulsa, and many Oklahomans have grown up with Taco Bueno.

Across the nation, the over-all winner was Chik-Fil-a, and that contest wasn't even close. In 38 states, the chicken restaurant was chosen as the favorite, with McDonald's coming in a very distant second, the favorite in 4 states. Also chosen as state favorites were Popeyes Chicken (2 states), Canes, In-N-Out, White Castle, Wendy's, Culvers and Taco Bueno.

Currently, Taco Bueno has 64 locations throughout Oklahoma and now "Buenoheads" can even get Taco Bueno delivered straight to their door through apps such as UberEats, GrubHub and DoorDash.
