X Japan’s Yoshiki Donates $100,000 Toward Amazon Rainforest Aid

X Japan bandleader Yoshiki has donated $100,000 to Earth Alliance and its Amazon Forest Fund to help curb the destruction of the biodiverse tropical jungle in light of the 2019 Amazon rainforest wildfires.

One-hundred percent of donations through Earth Alliance's Amazon Forest Fund go directly to protecting the Amazon. This, after a series of thousands of strong fires centered on Brazil began causing global alarm, as reported by The New York Times. Earth Alliance is a new organization co-founded by actor Leonardo DiCaprio in order to help address the urgent threats to our planet’s life support systems.

"The Amazon fires deserve the world's attention," Yoshiki urged in a press release accompanying the large donation. "I want to encourage people in every nation, including Japan, to take action."

After learning of the increasing fires throughout the region, the X Japan figurehead contacted the newly launched Earth Alliance to make the donation through his nonprofit Yoshiki Foundation America.

Yoshiki's donation to help in the Amazon rainforest crisis continues the musician’'s international humanitarian work, which included disaster relief for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas, aid in the Japanese flood devastation, and last month's support for victims and survivors of the Kyoto Animation Fire.
