Scott Weiland Christmas Album? [VIDEO]
If you haven’t already heard the news by now Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots & Velvet Revolver fame has recorded a new Christmas album “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” in stores now & available at various legal download sites online . I thought the exact same thing when I heard the news “what the f#@k” why the hell is Scott Weiland recording a Christmas Album? I guess the answer to that, according to Scott is “why the hell not”. If you’re expecting a balls out, rock n’ roll, hard hitting Christmas album look elsewhere. But if you’re wanting a more traditional sound for your holiday this might be for you. When it comes to Christmas songs & artists I tend to lean towards the parodies of Bob Rivers, the delightfully deranged classics of Psychostick & all the other Christmas Collaborations & compilations that we all know & some of us love, at least those of us with taste. I also enjoy the true classics from those incredible Christmas crooners of days gone by like Bing Crosby, Nat King Coal, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra even Brenda Lee & Gene Autry. If like myself you enjoy the classics this latest Christmas offering from Mr. Weiland “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” could be for you. It’s kind of an ode to the greats as Scott pays tribute to some of the most memorable Christmas artists & songs of all time. Maybe he covered one of your favorites.
Scott Weiland “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” Track Listing:
1.) The Christmas Song
2.) I’ll Be Home From Christmas
3.) White Christmas
4.) Silent Night
5.) It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
6.) What Child Is This
7.) Winter Wonderland
8.) Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
9.) Happy Christmas & Many More
10.) O Holy Night
Overall I’d say it’s not a bad offering, certainly not great in my opinion but an effort none the less. There are parts of this album that are pleasant & soulful, however there are a few tracks that are difficult to listen to, even painful at times. It’s strange to hear Scott Weiland perform jazz like vocals while trying to capture the spirit of the original song without totally destroying it. He succeeded in a few & damaged the others. He seems to be trying too hard & lacks the overall vocal quality if not ability to accurately sing some of these songs. Of course when you’re trying to cover Bing Crosby, Nat King Coal, Perry Como & others it’s a difficult if not impossible task, at least for Scott Weiland anyway. So that you don’t waste any of your hard earned soon to be for Christmas cash here’s a taste of what you can expect from Scott Weiland’s “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”.

I’ve listened to the entire disk a few times now & it’s starting to grow on me, good thing or not. I will say don’t judge the entire C.D. by this one song alone. it’s not even one of the better tracks on the album or his best effort in my opinion. At least it’s a break from “Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer”. Is it just me or did you find the video to “Winter Wonderland” a little creepy?
