It’s been five years since Jay Weinberg became the drummer for Slipknot. To celebrate the powerhouse percussionist, we’ve put together a list of 10 unforgettable moments from the musician.

Weinberg’s journey to Slipknot took him through multiple bands. After touring with Bruce Springsteen in place of his iconic father, Max Weinberg, Jay went on to drum for hardcore veterans Madball and modern punk favorites Against Me! Jay didn’t stay in either band very long, but you’ll see clips from both in this list.

When Jay flew across the country to audition for Slipknot, he had no idea which band was waiting for him in that practice space. “Just from going on muscle memory from when I was, like 14 or 15 in my shed, we played about 20 Slipknot songs,” Weinberg told SJC Custom Drums. “I was like, ‘Alright, man. If you want this, it’s yours.’”

Jay has now performed on two Slipknot albums, .5: The Gray Chapter and We Are Not Your Kind. Fashioned in the mold of Joey Jordison, Jay has continued to contribute dynamic and rapidly changing drum parts for Slipknot, focusing heavily on blast beats. We threw some of Weinberg’s coolest drum parts from both albums in this list, along with his work from the standalone single “All Out Life.”
