An Alligator was Spotted Near Tishomingo, Oklahoma

If you didn't know, Oklahoma has a decent population of alligators. Our Southern border Red River is what feeds the Atchafalaya Swamp in Louisiana, it's only natural some make the trip up our way... but to spot one as far upstream as Tishomingo has to be a rarity.

Normally, the vast majority of Oklahoma's 200-ish alligators can be found in the Red Slough Wildlife Management Area and Little River National Wildlife Refuge, both located deep in the southeast corner of the state. There have been frequent sightings further west into Choctaw County, but that's the extent of gator sightings in our waterways.

Oklahoma has so many manmade dammed reservoirs, it's not easy for aquatic wildlife to migrate up our rivers. That's what makes snagging a wild spoonbill such a prideful experience.

This alligator, if it indeed made its way up to Tishomingo, did so with John Wick's dedication. It's 150+ miles of travel, including figuring out how to get around the locks of Lake Texoma.

There's a chance it could be a released pet that has grown big over the years, but we won't know until the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation releases their reports later, if they investigate at all.
