Depending on how small the town you grew up in was, you should know there is nothing like hitting your local Atwoods on a Saturday morning. It's as much an Oklahoma tradition as Blue & Gold sausage for breakfast.

Maybe the family farm needs a bag of feed. Maybe the hog panels are on sale. You might even need a new pair of boots. None of it matters, we used to go for the entertainment. Just to get out of the house and look around. But there's another reason to stop by this weekend.

Atwoods Has Another Hot Dog Day This Saturday

This Saturday, October 10, select Atwoods locations across Oklahoma will be serving up two hot dogs and a can of Shasta soda for $1.

Two hot dogs. A soda. One dollar.

I don't reckon we need to overthink this one.

Atwoods has Hot Dog Days pretty much year-round, but the next is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and there's a pretty good bonus to the whole thing. Atwoods uses the event to help local charities and organizations raise money, so there's usually a local group, charity, or youth organization doing the actual serving and collecting the proceeds.

You get lunch for a buck, and some of that money is going back into the community.

That's a pretty solid Saturday deal.

And considering how much it costs to get just about anything resembling lunch these days, two hot dogs and a Shasta for a dollar sounds like something we should probably take advantage of while it still exists.

Atwoods has the full list of Hot Dog Day dates on its website, but October 10 is the next one on the calendar.

I'll see you by the grill.

Common Oklahoma Beliefs That Aren’t Quite True

On this topic, I love to bring up the Volkswagen Beetle-sized catfish that everyone swears lives at the bottom of every Oklahoma dam. Here's a sobering thought... That's a common belief in communities near every dam in America. I've heard it from North Carolina all the way to Arizona. It's just a myth. Here are some more wildly incorrect Oklahoma beliefs.

Oklahoma's Top Oktoberfest Celebrations

While it probably won't feel like fall during this year's Oklahoma Oktoberfest celebrations, that's no reason to stay at home. Especially with so much time to plan your trips. On that, depending on where you live, most of these are day-trip events, though giving yourself the weekend is always a treat.
