Well, here’s an innovative way to get people to come to a game.

Jeff Walz, the basketball coach for the University of Louisville women’s basketball team, has promised to buy the first beer for the first 2,500 fans (of legal drinking age) who show up for his squad’s home game against LSU on Thursday in the preseason WNIT. It's $2 beer night, so Walz's bit of generosity will cost him $5,000.

Louisville, who went to the Final Four last season, is ranked number five in the country, while LSU is 14th.

Walz said the gimmick is designed to energize the fan base:

It's a little way to say thanks to all our adults who come and support us, and we're just trying to get some of our fans who haven't come out to come on out one time and get a drink and enjoy the ballgame and hopefully grab the attention of a few more fans."

Tickets for the game are also being slashed from $10 to $6 in another attempt to woo fans.

We hope this doesn't catch on at the NFL level, since fans don't always behave themselves, even if beer isn't necessarily a factor.

This promotion is just the second unusual one in the women’s basketball ranks this season. Last week, Kansas State gave away bacon to fans during its season opener.
