Lawton Has A Lot Of Opinions About Who Has The Best Burger

Somebody asked a simple question on Facebook.

Where's the best burger in Lawton?

That's it. That's all they asked. And judging by the comments, you would have thought somebody had walked into town and insulted everyone's mother.

I scanned the comments, and one thing became pretty obvious pretty quickly.

Lawton has a LOT of opinions about hamburgers.

The Most Popular Burger In Lawton

There was one name that came up more than anybody else.

Burgess Grill.

Over and over.

"Burgess."

"Burgess Grill."

"Burgess hands down."

Someone even said that if you haven't eaten a burger fresh off the grill at Burgess, you shouldn't even get an opinion on this subject.

That's harsh enough to be scandalous.

And several people specifically called out the guacamole burger.

So if we're judging this particular Facebook conversation by sheer number of people throwing their hat in the ring, Burgess came out on top... But it wasn't exactly a landslide across the entire city.

Red Boot Grill had plenty of supporters.

S&B Burgers had people defending it pretty hard, too. One person specifically said none of the suggestions so far came close to S&B and added that the fries were killer.

Then there was Wayne's.

Several people mentioned it, with one person getting very specific about going to the Wayne's on Sheridan. As a West-Sider, I might disagree on the location, but like any restaurant, sometimes it's a great meal, and other times it's just food.

The Best Burgers Near Lawton

And then things started getting interesting, because when you ask Lawton about the best burger, a lot of people don't actually mean Lawton... They mean somewhere within driving distance of Lawton.

Meers got several mentions.

Cowboy's Pumpkin Center Cafe got several more.

Ann's Country Kitchen in the Lake Lawtonka area came up.

So did Boompa's Burgers in Elgin.

Bait Shop Burgers in Snyder had a couple of people basically telling everyone it was worth the drive.

There were also recommendations for burgers in Medicine Park, Cache, Chickasha and elsewhere.

That's one of my favorite things about asking a local question like this. Nobody follows the directions. We follow our stomachs.

More Lawton Burger Favorites

There were plenty of the usual suspects, too.

Whataburger got some love, including somebody who specifically said the patty melt was their favorite.

Five Guys.

Braum's.

Sonic.

Bricktown Brewery.

Chili's even had a couple of people making a case for the Big QP burger and the 3 For Me deal.

And then there were the answers that only Facebook could produce.

"Burga Kang!!"

"My house."

"My wife's."

"Burger King."

"The Big Mac."

One person even asked:

"Is burger a metaphor for anything?"

I don't know either.

At that point I think we had officially left the restaurant discussion and entered the internet.

It Wasn't Just Lawton Burger Joints Either

There were also some pretty specific wildcard recommendations.

One person swears by the burger at Salas Mexican, along with fries mixed with jalapeños, chips and salsa.

More mentioned the casino burgers, and at least one person dropped Wahlburger's out at the Cache Spur Casino as if it were a secret.

Apparently the search for a good hamburger doesn't stop at the city limits.

After reading through all of the comments, I don't think there's a scientific answer to the question of who has the best burger in Lawton.

There probably never will be.

Everybody has their place. Everybody has their burger. Everybody has that one restaurant they think everybody else is somehow overlooking.

Shout-out Hollis Boomerang!

But if we're talking about this particular Facebook conversation, there is a winner.

Burgess Grill was mentioned more than anybody else, and by a pretty wide margin.

That's not to declare Burgess as the official, undisputed, government-certified Best Burger In Lawton... But who are you and I to disagree with popular opinion?
