Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has been teasing his new project The Longshot over the past couple of weeks via social media, and now we've got the first taste of music from the band in the form of a three-song EP released to digital music platforms last night. The three songs can be listened to below.

The tracks are punchy with, not surprisingly, a bit of a pop-punk sheen to them. "Love Is for Losers," which is also the title of the forthcoming LP by the group, has a bit of a Social Distortion vibe to it, while "Taxi Driver" recalls the Replacements, which is fitting as you may remember Billie Joe playing some with The Replacements on their reunion tour a few years back. The third song, "Chasing a Ghost," sounds like something that wouldn't be out of place on any recent Green Day record.

Not much else is known about The Longshot, other than what's been revealed on the official Instagram page, which states the new album Love Is for Losers is “coming eventually sooner or later. Probably sooner.”

As for Green Day, the band is taking a break from the road to focus instead on the movie adaptation of their 2004 masterpiece American Idiot for HBO. This past November, they released their second best of collection titled Greatest Hits: God's Favorite Band.
