Last year the Cops and Kids Poker Run had to be postponed over a month because of inclement weather. This year, you couldn't have ordered a better day from the weatherman for the 8th annual Cops and Kids Poker Run, as close to 50 motorcycle riders and other vehicles headed out from Elmer Thomas Park at 9:30 for the run that included stops at Classic Chevrolet in Lawton, in Medicine Park, at the Elgin Fire Department, at Journey Custom Cycles in Duncan and at Wind River Harley Davidson in Lawton, before making their way back to Elmer Thomas Park for prizes and fine dining.

The poker run was is held every as a fund raiser for the Cops and Kids Picnic, held every September. A wide variety of motorcycles, trikes, cars and even the KLAW Tahoe made their way out on a little less famous three-hour tour. There were of course prizes for the high and low hands from the poker run, but there was also hot dogs, chips and sodas for one and all, t-shirts and a raffle to help raise funds for the September picnic.

"I just think it's awesome the overwhelming response that we have had from the citizens in the community,” said Sgt. Stephanie Crawford. “I think they know how important it is to do the Cops N Kids Picnic in September for the kids. We've had a wonderful response not only from our sponsors, but then also the people that are here today."

For those of you who missed the Poker Run, you can still donate to the Cops and Kids foundation by sending a check in any amount to the Lawton PD at 10 SW 4th Street, Lawton, OK 73501, attention Sgt Stephanie Crawford. Please make checks payable to the FOP Lodge #98.
