Cradle of Filth’s Dani Filth Plays ‘Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?’

Dani Filth has almost 30 years of history with Cradle of Filth, so we asked him to prove and disprove what’s written about himself and the band on Wikipedia.

It’s true that an entire Cradle of Filth album entitled Goetia was lost prior to its release on Tombstone Records. One track was salvaged, but Dani calls the loss a blessing in disguise. “We decided not to pursue it,” Filth said about buying the record back. “It was lucky we didn’t, actually. We would have been tied for like, seven albums. It would’ve been the death of us … We were devastated at the time, but in the long run, it worked out for the best.”

Though it’s false that The Principle of Evil Made Flesh album cover was based off Type O Negative’s Bloody Kisses, Cradle of Filth did actually get arrested at the Vatican. It wasn’t the “I Love Satan” shirts that pissed police off, however. “They were more bothered that our keyboardist was dressed as a priest, because it’s illegal to do that in Italy,” Filth explains. “We were very lucky to get out of there.”

Finally, it’s true that Cradle of Filth have a fan who believes herself to be the reincarnation of blood countess Elizabeth Bathory. In this video, Dani actually tells the story of meeting her boyfriend in Milwaukee. With visions of Jeffrey Dahmer already in his mind, Dani freaked when the boyfriend drove him off the beaten path during a run to Walmart.
