Whether you have dogs, kids, or a personal aversion to fireworks and loud noises, this is your reminder to take the next week and prepare yourself and others for the coming holiday.

It's going to be loud, and there's nothing wrong with people celebrating America.

While the posts don't generally populate on social media until the day before or the day of July 4th, it's almost as if the holiday surprises those with issues.

Posts from 2024:

To anyone who's shooting off fireworks in the city limits, which is illegal by the way, I want you to know you suck. My animals are scared to death right now. I hope you get a huge fine, and get what's coming to you.

Why are people still lighting fireworks?? its 11:30pm!! people are trying to sleep. we usually expect fireworks to stop around 10pm at this point its bothering peoples sleep.

All I ask is that everyone be considerate of those with p.t.s.d. issues. Fireworks trigger them. Please be respectful. It's really hard on my family and others as well.

As I get older, the more I realize people should not be in possession of fireworks and explosives without extensive training and a documented, registered license… idgaf if it is the 4th of July, your average person doesn’t need them…

Even the most liberal America-hating people have to admit that last one is a wildly anti-American take for social media posting in a military town. They probably think gun owners should require a government license and be limited to only having muskets too.

Fun Fact: Nobody possessed an explosives license during the Revolution.

The point isn't that you should just be OK with fireworks or suck up the side effects of people celebrating our collective freedom. We all understand that people and pets may have issues with the various celebrations, and nobody wants to intentionally set off a random series of panicked events in your home... but that's a personal problem each person has time to solve on their own.

There is no place to shoot fireworks in Lawton, Oklahoma, literally the home of the US Army Field Artillery. Freedom rings at all hours of the day and night when they're playing military games on post, yet it's illegal for citizens to celebrate America within city limits because our city council and mayor are a gaggle of sackless anti-Americans in this regard.

Still, people all across the city shoot fireworks when they feel the need to feel American, and there's nothing more American than sticking it to a tyrannical and controlling government, even if it's local.

I know, we're way off topic.

Back to the point, with a week to go until the 4th, there's ample time to make a game plan for your own household to avoid sensory issues without being the Karen who rains on everyone's patriotism.

Book yourselves a quiet Airbnb out in the middle of nowhere where you and yours won't be affected by the celebrations of America. Take a summer road trip to visit family in one of the anti-American states across the country. Plan a movie night at home and distract the kids with Marvel movies; the fireworks will just sound like the TV.

Don't be the narcissistic Karen who asks an entire town to bend to your will.

Oklahoma's Best 4th of July Celebrations

There's nothing like celebrating America's independence in the heartland, and Oklahoma practically overflows with patriotism across the state. While most towns have their own celebrations, some are larger than others. Since it would be hard to catch all of them in one day, they're spread out a bit over two and a half weeks, pick one or more and let your American flag fly.

Do Not Leave These Things in Your Hot Car in Oklahoma

While you would expect most of this to be general knowledge, you'd be amazed how many people found out the hard way that there are some things you should never leave in a hot vehicle. Since we're knee-deep into another hot Oklahoma summer, it's worth mentioning to those who don't know.

Oklahoma's Best BBQ Joints

Nothing in Oklahoma is debated more passionately than who makes the best BBQ. While they all smoke meat, there are some huge differences in how that process is done. Type of wood, length of cook, foil vs paper wrap, and even the hot topics of seasoning, binders, and sauce come into play. What you like others may not, and vice versa. Since we can't just pick a top five or ten, here are the Oklahoma BBQ joints that have the biggest fans.
