It never fails, gas prices always go up before the unofficial summer kicks off with Memorial Day weekend. It's just the natural way the stock market influences fuel costs in America.

In the last seven days, I believe the price has risen about thirty cents and every publication online is quoting the same sources saying gas is going to go up even more throughout the weekend which is a total bummer. At the time I'm writing this on Friday morning, the cheap E-10 fuel in Lawton ranges from $3.89 to $3.95 per gallon.

By the way, you might do the simple math to see if buying the cheaper E-10 gas at the pump is actually costing you more in the long run here...

While high fuel prices suck for everyone as it influences pricing for all goods and services, about half of all Americans are choosing to ditch their Memorial Day weekend travel plans. Also a big bummer, but at least we live in a place where there are tons of things to do for free.

From the mountains to the lakes, the city parks to your own backyard, there is no limit to the fun you can have if you're determined to try something new.

Odds are you've driven through the mountains before, why don't you go park somewhere and explore it deeper? Elk Mountain is a popular hike. Forty Foot Hole is an amazing trek. All of the information is readily available online.

Lake Lawtonka is a shockingly clean and clear-ish water lake with a swimming beach. Take the hibachi grill out there and celebrate how your parents probably did as kids. Make a family memory or just make it all about the bros.

Take the kids to Elmer Thomas Park. With a giant play area, a splash pad, and plenty of walking trails and critters to watch, they'll find a way to keep themselves entertained with the new friends they'll meet. Pack a picnic and book to give yourself a little relaxation.
