Statement by NORAD and USNORTHCOM Public Affairs concerning UC mission:

"Today, Health and Human Services informed us of their plan to suspend the use of temporary shelters on military bases to accommodate their unaccompanied children mission.  Today, there are approximately 700 children housed at temporary shelters at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Fort Sill Army Base, and Naval Base Ventura County.  There are no planned arrivals of children at these locations because HHS plans to care for newly arriving children at their standard shelters.  As a result, we expect the Ft. Sill facility to no longer be caring for children by August 8.  The other two facilities will also continue to phase down and we expect them to suspend operations over the next two to eight weeks.  DoD facilities will still be available to HHS for use through January 31st if needed."
