Elk City’s Eye Opener Is A Must For Coffee Lovers

Life can hard for a coffee snob, especially when traveling through Oklahoma. When I travel, I always try to visit a local coffee shop rather than big chains. And I have come across my fair share of local small town coffee shops where I haven't had the best cup of coffee. However, when I recently tried my luck a little coffee shop in Elk City, I started to believe in the small town coffee scene again.

Now that I live in Lawton, I don't get around western Oklahoma as much as did growing up in Frederick. But over the last year, I've found myself in Elk City more thanks to my mom's arthritis doctor. Aside from the stellar care at the Oklahoma Arthritis Center in Elk City, I've come across some of the best iced vanilla lattes I've ever had.

Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie House is located inside one of Elk City's local eye doctor offices.

Before I visit anywhere, I always look up local coffee shops I can visit. When searching for local coffee shops in Elk City, I came across the usual suspects, Starbucks and Scooter's. There were a few other local coffee shops as well, but I can usually tell what's going to be a hit for a coffee snob based on the establishment's photos.

So when I came across Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie House, I was surprised to see photos of some really beautiful latte art, and of course, the caramel color of their iced lattes were very promising. And when I realized it was tucked inside an eye doctor's office, I was more intrigued and a little bit more skeptical.

But I'm glad I gave Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie House a chance because, to this day, it has been one the best iced vanilla latte I've had. And the first one I tried from them was last year.

I returned to Elk City earlier this week for a yearly appointment, and I was more than happy to drive the two hours from Lawton to Elk City because I was already planning on visiting Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie House.

I was worried that maybe the first time I tried them that it would have been on a really good day, and this year I wouldn't be so lucky. But I can confirm that Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie House is consistent, because once again, I had the best iced vanilla latte.

I mean, look at that caramel color! It wasn't too sweet and it wasn't too strong. It was a 16oz iced latte with two shots of espresso, whole milk and three pumps of vanilla syrup. Perfection.

And I'm not the only one that thinks Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie House is probably the best coffee shop in western Oklahoma. The shop has a 4.8 rating on Google.

The coffee shop also has all positive reviews on its official Facebook page.

Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie Houses uses locally roasted coffee beans.

Another thing I look for when searching for a coffee shop to try is whether or not the shop roasts its own beans or uses locally roasted beans.

When I first visited Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie House last year, the barista told me they were using beans from Novel Coffee Roasters out of Fort Worth, Texas. I picked up a bag last year, and it was some delicious coffee to continue enjoying at home. If I remember correctly, it was the Black Swan Espresso.

When visiting Eye Opener Coffee and Smoothie House this week, I forgot to ask what beans they were using. I guess I'll have to convince my dad that we need to go play a round of golf in Elk City just so I can go back to Eye Opener again.
