How To Naturally Dye Your Oklahoma Easter Eggs
If you love the tradition of dying Easter eggs but hate messing with food dye, luckily there are some easy natural ways to make colorful eggs! Oklahoma's Pioneer Woman outlined how easy it is to naturally dye Easter eggs from simple items found in your kitchen.
Easter weekend is coming up, and everyone will be getting ready for loads of Easter egg hunts. Everyone loves finding eggs with delicious treats and, of course, money. But there's something so beautiful and nostalgic about dyed Easter eggs. And it's so fun dying the Easter eggs the night before Easter, especially with your kids or grandkids.
We all know that dying Easter eggs is a messy business! And your hands can easily turn the colors of the Easter eggs. Over the years, artificial food dye has become taboo for most households because of all the chemicals, and some kids have been found to have allergies to certain dyes.
Luckily, there are some easy natural ways to dye your Easter eggs so you don't have to skip out on this longtime Easter tradition.
Here's How to Naturally Dye Your Easter Eggs
With these natural dyes, you'll be able to color your eggs yellow, pink, orange and blue - perfect colors for Easter! Here's what you'll need to make the colors:
- Turmeric = bright yellow
- Red onion skin = orange
- Beets = pink
- Hibiscus tea = gray
- Red cabbage = blue
You'll want to boil white eggs to get the best colors. Then you'll want to boil whatever dye ingredient you're doing in about four cups of water for 15 minutes. Once done, you'll want to strain your ingredients into a measuring cup and add some white vinegar. Then soak your boiled eggs in the dyed water overnight.
