Oklahoma Girl Headed Once Again To American Idol
The news is out: Cyril, Oklahoma's Skylie Thompson is headed back to American Idol for the second time to see "if the second time's a charm." Skylie's supporters can watch her audition on Sunday, March 9 for the 23rd season of American Idol.
Skylie Thompson's First Appearance On American Idol
Thompson's last appearance on American Idol in 2022 didn't go quite the way that she and her father, Davy Thompson, were hoping for. After playing both her original work "Buckle Bunny" and a Zach Bryan cover, the judges were impressed but cautious about sending Thompson to the next round.
After Thompson's audition, judge Lionel Richie explained that Thompson, although talented, just needed time. "I know this is the pinnacle time of your life... and you're going 'oh my god this is the moment.' I am telling you... you've got it," he said. "You don't need voice lessons, you just need time."
Now, years later, Thompson has had that time and has made her way back to the stage in front of some of the same three judges: Lionel Ritchie, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood.
Skylie Thompson's Next American Idol Audition Set For Sunday, March 9
Based on the comments from Thompson's announcement, it seems that her father will also be with her again for Season 23.
Folks in Oklahoma are excited to see another 'Oklahomahomie' make it to the big leagues. Ironically, this year will be the first year that the only American Idol winner from Oklahoma will be judging.
Let's hope that Carrie Underwood and the rest of the judges vote that time was on Skylie's side.
