Quick check in, how’s that New Year’s resolution holding up?
Be honest. The calendar doesn't have a wrinkle in it, and yet the wheels are already wobbling. Sure, you've got your gym bag but it somehow never makes it inside. The salad phase lasted two meals, and that budgeting app you swore would change your life is sitting unused.
No judgment from me, I do this every year too.
There’s something about January 1 that makes everything feel possible. Fresh calendar, clean slate, big promises. But then real life taps you on the shoulder and says "Hey, you still have a job, a family, weather that doesn’t care, and habits that didn’t magically disappear at midnight..." and that’s usually when people quit. Not because they’re lazy, but because resolutions aren't as loud as life.
What never gets talked about is how fast we decide that slipping once means we failed entirely. Miss a workout, might as well quit. Eat one bad meal, might as well start over next year. Skip a day, scrap the whole plan. It’s all or nothing thinking, and January is undefeated at exposing it.
Instead of drowning in the self-loathing that you're year is already ruined, take a beat, relax a little bit, and aim a little more within your abilities. Make a daily resolution, those are easier to hold fast. Eat better or exercise for just one day... You stretch enough of those one day's together, you're having the year of your life!
There’s still eleven plus months left of 2026. You can do this. Just take it one day at a time.
